What is epoxy grout?

Epoxy grout is a grout composed of epoxy resin, hardener, and silica filler instead of the Portland cement base found in standard cement grout. This chemical composition gives it fundamentally different performance characteristics, particularly in wet environments and high-traffic areas.

The key distinction lies in its resistance profile. Where cement grout is porous and absorbs liquids and stains readily, epoxy grout creates a non-porous barrier between tiles. It resists most household chemicals, oils, wine, and other common staining agents that would penetrate and discolor cement grout. This makes it especially valuable in kitchens, bathrooms, and commercial spaces.

Water resistance is another major advantage. Epoxy does not break down in wet conditions the way cement grout can, and it does not support mold or mildew growth as easily. It also cures quickly and maintains flexibility, reducing the likelihood of cracking over time.

The trade-off is that epoxy grout requires more careful installation than cement grout. It has a shorter working time, demands strict attention to proportions, and can be harder to clean off tiles if excess hardens before cleanup.
